Do you sometimes get the feeling that nothing seems to be going the way you think it should? Just like most of us, at some point, you will (or maybe already have) hit a point where work is not fulfilling, you are struggling with a relationship, or you just feel lost in general. You might have a strong desire to make some simple changes yet are feeling stuck.

At times like these, making changes to your life can seem overwhelming. There’s so much to do…where do you even start?

It’s quite simple, really…start by changing ONE thing.

Something as small as reading a magazine or ezine (online newsletter) article you wouldn’t typically consider, trying a new type of restaurant, or taking a different route to work can make a difference. The key to making simple changes is to remember that no matter how small, these simple changes have the potential to shift your perspective.  These new twists can start you on the path to positive transformation.

It’s like a ship at sea…if it changes course even one degree, 100 nautical miles later it’s in completely new waters.

Conversely, if you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always got. Smart people change their ways.

Profound Shifts

Some of the most profound shifts are those that come from introspection. Annoyance can easily be turned into fascination. Frustration can be flipped to become gratitude. Even anger can be transformed if you simply turn it into a song.

So many of our struggles can be attributed to ineffective communication whether it be with a colleague, employer, or in our personal relationships. By looking within ourselves and choosing to make even minor adjustments in the way we communicate with others, positive changes can come about in a multitude of ways.

To experience big transformations, we need to deepen trust in ourselves and those around us. Trust is a basic element for effective communications.

As Judith E. Glaser, founder of Conversational Intelligence®, identifies, “When we are in a state of trust, we experience reality with new eyes and we:

  • Reveal more and expect less
  • Over deliver
  • Assume the best of others
  • Look at situations with an open heart
  • Interpret communications through truth and facts
  • Tell the truth
  • Encourage people to confront truth”

The best part is…it’s all experimentation. If the changes aren’t coming about as you had hoped, you can always shift gears, reflect, and make another choice.

 You don’t have to tackle the whole enchilada, just make one simple shift.
