After building her own multi-million-dollar franchise business and then working for 10 years in corporate America, Barb Girson decided to return to the entrepreneurial world last December and started a professional skill building, training, consulting, and coaching company that would help like-minded professionals realize their goals.
One of Barb's first challenges was choosing a name and logo for her business, and she decided to use Constant Contact so she could ask customers which option they preferred. By a two-to-one ratio, customers chose My Sales Tactics. Barb was extremely satisfied by the experience.
This early success with surveys convinced Barb that customer feedback can be a valuable tool in building a successful business. After some periodic inquiries, she decided to take the pulse of what her customers were thinking on a more regular basis. Now she checks in before and after events, while working with clients to monitor their progress, and at other times. She also uses polls to get customers' feedback on quick, topical questions.
"Surveys have impacted my ability to measure results like a professional research agency," Barb says. "To be able to affordably produce this type of data helps me to make business decisions based on results, along with my gut instincts, and to do the same for my clients."
Barb's experience with online surveys has taught her two important lessons that she passes along to anyone else considering using surveys. The first is to use Constant Contact's templates when you are starting out; they provide helpful examples of what questions to ask. Secondly, "keep your surveys and polls short," she says. "People will offer their opinion when you are clear in what you are asking and brief in the time it will take to provide their opinion."
Armed with these insights, Barb should be able to continue providing the services and support her customers need.
